Monster’s New Foray into Social Networking is One Small Step for Recruiting, One Giant Leap for Monster
Last month, Monster.com introduced its new “Communities” link on the job board homepage. Communities is a set of niche communities intended to bring together groups of like-minded professionals to a central location for networking, learning, and finally career development. The communities are set up very similar to what you might expect if it were an industry Ning network. Members can read news stories, get further education, get job advice and participate in online discussions. Of course, they can also load their resume into Monster’s resume database and use the community page as a platform to jump into job search.
There are currently 17 different communities users can join. Each community focuses on a different group. These groups are:
- Sales professionals
- IT / Technical
- Woman
- College
- Healthcare
- Administrative
- Education
- Food Service
- Human Resources
- Visual Arts
- Law Enforcement
- Nursing
- Fire Fighting
- Government
- Accounting
- Media / Advertising / PR
- and Non Profit
Although the content is pretty sparse today, the sites are built to grow with Monster content and user generated content.
It’s not surprising the second largest job board in the U.S. has taken this step into social networking. Long time rival, CareerBuilder.com, has been in the game for a while now. CareerBuilder launched it’s professional networking site (to rival LinkedIn) BrightFuse a little over a year ago and has advertising deals with Facebook.com.
As recruiting professionals, what do you think of this new endeavour? Will it work? Is it too little too late? Do you have time to join another network? Sound off below.
